The Labor Defense League sends out a last appeal
For the starving unemployed in West Virginia …
Act II. Scene, A Long Island Saloon.
A rotund mass of protoplasmic avoirdupois
Scion of Law and Order)
Is passing a rather respectable check
To a suspicious looking individual
(Once a faithful patron of Hotel Ossining,
Now a martyr in the cause of liberty a la Butler and Meneken).
Pompous scion then summons secretary, dictating:
“Despite the great prosperity in the country,
Peculiar conditions in the coal industry
Make it necessary to adjust the wage scales at this time.”
