♥ PIR SHABDA LEADS ZIKR AT HUGE PUBLIC EVENT IN INDIA FOR THE WALK OF HOPE
On February 16th in Delhi, the capital of India, Pir Shabda Kahn led a very large audience in rousing Zikr and song in an outdoor amphitheater, writes Rabbi Pamela Frydman. The songs included Drink with the Beloved and Ho Ike Mai, based on a Hawaiian proverb. Participants included Indian dignitaries and members of the Hindu, Buddhist, Sikh, Christian and Jewish communities. The purpose of the gathering was to welcome the Walk of Hope to Delhi.
The Walk of Hope is a 17 month pilgrimage from the southern tip of India to Kashmir in the north for the purpose of rejuvenating the spirit of hope, love, peace, harmony and oneness in India, and the erasing of disparities arising from misunderstandings of India’s diverse cultures and religions. The Walk is led by Sri Maheshwarnath, known as Sri M, a universal spiritual teacher who invited Shabda and Tai Situ Rinpoche to share the evening program with him.
Pir Shabda was joined by the Indian devotee and singer Lakshmi Bhatia. His musicians were the local band called Zoya. In addition to backing up Pir Shabda, the Zoya band sang Blowin’ in the Wind, Imagine and Amazing Grace. Before leading Zikr, Pir Shabda spoke about universal path of Sufism brought to the West by Hazrat Inayat Khan and the Dances of Universal Peace brought by Murshid Samuel L. Lewis.

♥ DID YOU KNOW?
Our Pir and the director of our Esoteric School are among the authors of Physicians of the Heart, the recently-published guidebook to the practice of Wazifah, the prayerful recitation of the 99 Beautiful Names of God as practiced by Sufi devotees everywhere. But you may not know that we have a helpful online pronunciation guide for the Names, with female and male voices represented. (About Physicians of the Heart). Also coming soon, a German translation of Physicians of the Heart.
♥ OUR WORK IN NEW DELHI: THE HOPE PROJECT INDIA:
Read recent report here! The Hope Project, inspired and largely supported by members of Sufi orders, is located adjacent to the shrine of Hazrat Inayat Khan. After four decades of work among the poorest of the poor in New Delhi, the Hope Project is making headway — older girls are returning to school and fathers are engaging in parenting classes around the concepts of good health and education. The Girls’ Non-Formal School attendance has risen to 75 students, and female graduates will be attending college. Young women from the Basti going to college has been a rare occurrence; now it is happening, and over the years, the success of so many in dividuals has changed the perception of the community concerning the importance and relevance of education. The Thrift and Credit microlending program has grown as well, and the Income Generation program is now a profit-making enterprise and has expanded to more people in the Basti who want to learn self-sufficiency. Please donate to the Hope Project at childrensashramfund.org and keep this heartbeat thriving.
♥ WORLD-WIDE EVENTS UPCOMING:
You are invited to nourish your practice and connect with your Sufi community: new events for winter, spring and beyond have been added to the Ruhaniat Calendar -- in California, Germany, New Mexico, Maui, North Carolina, Oregon, Florida, the Netherlands and more. See the wide spectrum of beautiful opportunities in the Ruhaniat Calendar.
Why support the Ruhaniat with your financial generosity? Read this inspiring message from Diana Lyon, member of the SRI Board of Trustees and co-chair of our Youth Council.
"In the spirit and in the footsteps of Hazrat Khwaja Moineddin Chishti, Hazrat Inayat Khan, Murshid SAM, and all the mothers, masters, saints, prophets, and wise ones, may our collective expression be one of flowing abundance, deep gratitude, and radiant, piercing clarity. Ya Hu! "
